Smartphones like andriod and tablets like the iPad or Surface Pro are great budget friendly tools to use to draw your webtoon on mobile!
There are pros and cons with everything but one of the biggest pro’s that touchscreen tablets have over graphic drawing tablets is that you don’t need a laptop or computer to use them to draw on! (Saves you a lot of money if you personally ask me!)
As a side note one of the downsides to using smart tablets is that their operation system can only handle certain art programs so if you’re a an aspiring 3D artist then you might want to look into getting a computer and graphic tablet.
Magic Poser app is a great 3D model alternative if you don’t have a computer or Clip Studio Paint’s 3D model feature~
Computers are good because they can handle powerful program software for those heavy duty graphic art projects.
As well as you don’t have to worry about the battery life since you can plug your computer to an outlet…
Now I know that tablets are mostly used for watching netflix or browsing online but they are so many hidden capabilities that artist can monopolize.
You don’t have to spend over 4k trying to cover all the cost of buying a computer and display tablet.
The wacom cintiq 24 HD cintiq cost me over 2k and that’s not including the price of a laptop or computer….(I had to save up for YEARS to afford it all)
You can now get all of that in a small compact and budget friendly package, aka the touchscreen tablet. Of course not everyone can afford investing $400 but it’s a lot cheaper than 4k so I like to keep that in mind.
So if you’re just a beginner looking to quickly dabble in the digital art world then here are a few touchscreen and standalone tablets you can use for drawing digitally~
Just as another disclaimer the tablets that I list below will be ones that are able to be compatible with pen stylus that have pressure sensitivity capabilities.
Personally for me I enjoying being able to draw on a tablet and it feel as close to pen on paper as possible.
So I need my tablets to be able to pick up on those subtle pressure changes that I apply with my pen.
Some people might not need that and that’s fine but this is just my personal preference when I’m searching for a good tablet to use for digital art.
Anywhoodle now lets get to my list! Below I have the features that I as a webtoon artist look for and find most important for a touchscreen tablet.
Microsoft Surface Go
First up is the cheapest one that I’ve found so far and the one that I’ve seen other of my digital art peers using and that’s the Surface Go tablet from Microsoft.
As a digital artist what I like most about this tablet is that the pen stylus actually has an eraser on the other end!
I of course can easily click to the eraser tool within my art app program but I can appreciate this added detail of the pen stylus having an eraser option.
No button clicking just flip-flop there you go!

- Device Size: 9.7 x 6.9 inches |
- Battery Life: Up to 9 hours
- Pen Stylus included: No Surface Pen is not included.
- RAM Space: 8 GB
Simbans PicassoTab
I love finding hidden little gems like these! This android tablet is another digital artist friendly tablet and VERY budget friendly!
Now do keep in mind that the RAM is a lot less than the Surface Pro or iPad Pro. From my research it doesn’t look like you can upgrade the RAM either.
- Price: $229.95 |
- Device Size: 10 x 6.9 inches |
- Battery Life: 5 hours
- Pen Stylus included: YES
- RAM Space: 2 GB
A Tablet typically will need 1 RAM to operate and every art app will also need to use a certain amount of RAM to also operate so keep that in mind if you’re looking for something budget friendly.
The cheaper the cost the more you might have to sacrifice what programs you can run on it but if you’re a beginner and just using one simple Art program then no worries I suppose~
With this specific package the pen stylus does come with it so that’s a plus and it’s battery free which is also a plus!
iPad Pro 11-Inch
I LOVE the iPad pro! I use at first was a little worried about using this tablet as a drawing tablet but the moment I saw how the feel of the pen to the screen felt so responsive as if I was drawing directly on paper I was sold!
Sometimes with certain display tablets you get that slight discount between the pen and the cursor but I didn’t have any issues with the iPad at all!
It legit felt like I was just drawing on illuminated digital paper, which is why I 10000% recommend this tablet to be used for drawing if you’re able to afford it!
They do have an iPad Mini for a lower cost and it also works with the apple pen but I have most of my experience with the iPad pro but it’s worth checking out the iPad min because if the pro is this good then image how good the mini would be!
- Price: $539.95 |
- Device Size: 11 x 7 inches |
- Battery Life: 10 hours
- Pen Stylus included: No || The Apple Pen is not included.
- RAM Space: 4-6 GB (This all depends on which amount of storage you select)
Just to show off a little before I go, here are a few art pieces that I doodle on the iPad Pro with the free medibang paint art app.
