Drawing Tablet Advice from a Digital Webtoon Comic Artist

Drawing Tablet Advice from a Digital Webtoon Comic Artist

There are lots of different tablet variations: Graphic Tablet, Display Tablet and the Standalone Tablet and my favorite would be standalone tablets.

The reason why I like to use the iPad for my webtoon comic art is because it’s budget friendly, doesn’t need a computer to attach too and it’s more mobile friendly.

Art Tablet Differences~

For today we’re gonna just focus on why I recommend graphic tablets being the best drawing tablets for beginner webtoon comic artist.

Graphic Tablets are Reliable

Not only are they light weight, compact, but you also don’t have to fight with the pen calibration as much as you do with a display tablet!

I like security, convenience, and reliability (is that a word?….I think so…)

I don’t want to have to always be fighting to get my pen to work with my tablet.

My Old Wacom Intuos Graphic Tablet

One of the graphic tablets that I’ve used to create my webtoon comic pages and has now become old faithful (like I can legit depend on this tablet to work with no pen connection issues or ANYTHING) would be the intuos graphic tablet from Wacom.

But the reason why I recommend Wacom’s products is because of my own personal experience using them near-nonstop for 10+years.

When I buy a drawing tablet or any art supplies there is always that fear if they will hold up throughout the years because you of course want to get your money’s worth and with Wacom I can trust that their products will do just that!

Now there are lots of other great and inexpensive graphic tablet alternatives, I’ve covered a few of other beginner friendly drawing tablets in this blog post here.

Due to their durability, versatility in connecting with a large variety of free and paid art programs and computer operating system, I am totally a big fan girl of Wacom!

Now with that said I do know there is a slight pull to want to go out and order their top of the line display tablets but I recommend just sticking to the graphic tablet for now because it can really take you and your art so far without such a steep financial investment.

Wacom Cintiq and Clip Studio Paint

You are of course free to do whatever you want but I’ve had my Display tablet for over 10 years and I’ve had many frustrating days of it losing calibration with the pen or the driver issues.

It’s gotten to the point to where I’m a little afraid to update my computer system because of the driver fit and pen pressure sensitivity and calibration issues that may follow.

This doesn’t happen all the time but it happens enough with these display tablets that I have become low key traumatized.

Don’t get me wrong display tablets are AMAZING because you can draw directly on the screen and it helps to better replicate that paper to pen feel.
