Hey there! If you’re interested in creating your own webtoon, I’ve got some tips for you.
Drawing Programs with Webtoon Comic Features:
- Clip Studio Paint: First off, I recommend using Clip Studio Paint (I’m personally using the desktop computer version one that is the one time payment because I’m more familiar with the UI for desktop than I am with their app version) Clip Studio Paint has lots of premade 3D models and backgrounds that I use for my webtoon backgrounds as well as what I use to trace over for my character poses and character sheets which helps a lot if you’re the type of artist that worries about character design consistency~
- ibis Paint (for making a webtoon on an iPad or mobile devices): This is a great alternative to Clip Studio paint for mobile devices, it’s currently ad supported and it doesn’t have any built in 3D model feature it does have a lot of premade 2D background materials and character base dolls for you to use to still bring your webtoon to life if you don’t have a lot of skill with drawing backgrounds or different character poses OR if just using 3D models in general is too overwhelming then using ibispaint app material may be a better fit.
Both have really useful features like panel tools and snap-to-perspective rulers that make creating backgrounds a breeze.
Digital Drawing Tools/Devices:
- Smartphone/Tablets: You can also use your smartphone to draw your webtoon, either with a pen stylus or just your finger. The only downside to using a smartphone is the smaller screen size, so if you have a tablet like the Surface Pro or iPad, that might be a better option because it comes with its own pen stylus.
Speaking of ibis Paint, it has a really cool anime background filter that I use to turn my photos into backgrounds for my illustrations. It’s a great time-saver! But if you prefer to create your backgrounds from scratch, you can use ibis Paint’s perspective ruler feature to draw your own.
Free Online Publishing Platforms:
- Once you’ve finished your webtoon, you can upload it to platforms like LINE Webtoon Canva or Tapas. Just make sure you’re using the desktop browser version of these sites to submit your comic, as the publishing option isn’t available on their mobile apps.
If you’re still feeling a little unsure about how to start your own webtoon, I recommend checking out the “How to Start a Webtoon” ebook. It’s perfect for beginners and covers everything from the hardware and tools webtoon artists use to the full process of creating a webtoon.
And if you’re just looking for a fun webtoon to pass the time, you might want to check out Catch Me! Fight Me! Love Me!, an AMBW manga comic with a fake marriage trope. Happy creating!
