Hey there! So you want to make a webtoon on your iPad for free, huh? Lucky for you, I know a thing or two about that.
First things first, you’ll want to check out ibispaint and websites like:
- Croppy,
- Shapr 3D CAD modeling,
- Magic Poser
- Internet browser app (You’ll need this to access the desktop version of the webtoon comic publishing sites that may not have the upload button available within their downloadable app~)
These are all great tools that you can use to make a full webtoon on any iPad or mobile tablet.
If you want to build your own 3D models for your webtoon backgrounds from scratch you can use apps like Shapr 3D CAD modeling. I personally like to use premade 3D models with Clip Studio Paint~
Just as a special shout out that ABLER from ACON3D is a free program that you can use to add 3D models to your backgrounds but currently it is only available on windows laptop or desktop but I’ll keep you all posted when it releases for Mac OS systems.
ibispaint even has features that are similar to Clip Studio Paint, like a screen recording function and a really cool anime background feature that can turn regular photos into webtoon backgrounds in no time.
You can also use Croppy’s website to resize your images to fit the webtoon format but WEBTOON CANVA as well as Tapas have come out with their own auto reformatter which helps you to slice and resize your images that you upload to help take away that extra step when making a webtoon on a mobile device like an iPad.
Once you have all your materials together, just create a new canvas in ibispaint (I like using a size of 1600 pixels wide x 2400 pixels long for my webtoon canvas since I draw in a shorter multi-page style) and start drawing. You can have one or two panels on this size canvas, and when you’re done, just save and export the page.
If you want to work in a longer canvas then you can totally do that as well because some webtoon artist also use that method to draw all of their webtoon panels at once instead of page by page like I do. It’s all about personal preference and what works smoothly for your brain to process the work load~
If you want to upload your webtoon to LINE Webtoon or Tapas, you can use the free Croppy website to resize and slice your page so it’s ready to go. Alternatively, you can also try using other free comic-specific art apps like Medibang or Krita.
