Page Size for Webtoon Comics

I saw a really good question online that said this:

“Hi, I’m thinking of drawing a webtoon. Do you think 800×1200 with 300 dpi is a good format to draw a long webtoon directly on?”

Personally I like to draw in a bigger file size ( my webtoon page size is 1600 pixels wide but 4800 pixels long) BUT I’m able to do that because I have enough RAM and Memory space on my computer or smart tablet to be able to handle that. If I was drawing my webtoon on my smartphone or my potato of a laptop then drawing in the 800 pixels wide by 1280 pixels long with a 300 dpi would be perfectly fine for me.

Since WEBTOON CANVA and Tapas has a built in auto cropping feature it helps to take away that extra confusing step on trying to make sure our webtoon files fit their website publishing requirements.

A common misconception with webtoons is that it’s just one long vertical strip so the fact that webtoon size for upload is 800px by 1280px throws people off cause they feel its too small for them to draw all 60 of their panels on…which that is correct, if you drew all 60 comic panels on one webtoon page size of 800px x 1280px it would look blurry and tiny~

I usually draw 1-3 panels per webtoon page file (because like I mentioned above my webtoon comic size is typically 1600 pixels wide by 4800 pixels long~) but there are other artist that will have their page size height be a lot longer so they can draw 60 panels all on one webtoon page file….(I get overwhelmed easily so I like drawing in the short format style~)

Webtoons are actually made of small individual image files and their platform automatically stacks them together seamlessly so it ends up looking like one long vertical strip.

When I draw my webtoon I like to have my canva size about double or sometimes triple the upload size because 800 pixels is just too small for me to enjoy drawing on.

Webtoon Panel Count Issues

Each file can be up to 2MB and usually having the dpi at 75 can help keep each file under 2MB.

But just a little tip to keep in mind that the lower the dpi the more blurry it will be so I recommend sticking to a dpi of 300.
